Self Acceptance: Making peace with who you’ve always been

You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.

C.S. Lewis

Self Acceptance is something that we have all struggled with at one time in our lives or another. And, undoubtedly, there have been times when another person’s desire to change you into what they would like for you to be instead of loving you for who you authentically are can continually be a frustrating and painful experience.

I chose the above quote by C.S. Lewis because I truly felt that it speaks volumes with its truth and simplicity. But sometimes stating a simple fact can catch your attention on a deeper level.

We can’t go back and change who we are, who we have been, the things we have done or the lessons we have learned. But we can begin the journey of learning to love ourselves in a true, honest and authentic type of way. Making peace with who you truly are, and realizing the individual you have always been, is a large step toward learning to accept each facet of your beautiful being. We cannot change who we have been, but we can love ourselves for who we are and finally feel a happiness and peace.

Below, I have written out some self acceptance affirmations that I hope will help begin to heal you and bring you to that place of a sincere self acceptance and love.

  • I cannot control how others view me, but I can control how I view myself
  • Living MY life to please others would not be living MY life
  • It is not my responsibility to respond to every false narrative about myself, my past, or my current life
  • Loving someone for who they truly are is a love we all deserve
  • It is not my responsibility to be what YOU want me to be. My responsibility lies within the much more simple realm of being who and what I was born to be, and nothing less than

I hope that the above affirmations have helped in some way. I encourage each of you, my wonderful readers, to love yourself and accept yourself for who you are and what you have to offer the world. You are enough. You are worthy! That can’t be taken away from you!
