Perseverance through adversity: What drives you?

As I sit and watch the news coverage and the live feeds from on the ground in Ukraine, I’m hit with the realization that we are seeing perseverance on the screen right in front of us. The perseverance of the Ukrainian people in the face of possible death and certain destruction. Yet they stand firm. How many of us can say the same in our day-to-day lives?

As I look back on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the people of New Orleans, they stood strong. They had been battered but they persevered.

Through wars, hurricanes, floods, devastating earthquakes, plague, famine, drought, fires, and civil unrest…. humanity has a track record of perseverance in the face of everything designed to tear it apart. And we prevail. At least for the most part. But how many times have we allowed an inconvenience to completely deconstruct our day? A mechanical malfunction can send us into frustrated tears. Something small in the grand scheme of things, but we allow it to have so much power over us at that moment that we allow ourselves to forget just what we have been through and how strong we are.

That is why today I wanted to talk about perseverance through adversity. Helping you to remember your strength through the small daily trials. And the bigger, life-changing circumstances that could alter our world so very quickly.

What drives us? Each of us is very different and unique. So, what may drive and motivate one individual through a trying time may not exactly be what drives someone else. We are all different. With that being said, true necessity can honestly be one of the biggest driving forces in our lives. The absolute necessity for safety, shelter, food, and water are things that would drive us all to persevere. But it’s those small things in life, those little bumps in the road that can shake us up and bring so much stress. We begin to doubt ourselves, those around us. There are days when you just feel like hiding under your bed and starting over again. Unfortunately, that isn’t possible. But it is possible to build stronger spiritual and emotional defenses so that you will not be brought down so low. You can maintain an inner strength that will guide you through anything!

I wanted to share a few scriptures with you. These are a few scriptures that have helped me personally and I hope that they may bring you some comfort as well. We have a wellspring of inner strength. We just have to understand where it comes from and how to access it!

1 Chronicles 16:11

Seek the Lord and his

Strength, seek his face continually.

2 Thessalonians 3:5

And the Lord direct your hearts

Into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

Psalm 121:1-8

(1)I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence

Cometh my help.

(2)My help cometh from the Lord,

 which made heaven and earth.

(3)He will not suffer they foot to be moved:

he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

(4)Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall

Neither slumber nor sleep.

(5) The Lord is thy keeper:

The Lord is they shade upon they right hand.

(6)The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor

The moon by night.

(7)The Lord shall preserve thee

From all evil:he shall preserve

They soul

(8)The Lord shall preserve

They going out and thy coming in from

This time forth, and even for evermore.

I hope that these few scriptures may bring some peace and comfort to those who read them. We can make it through. We can persevere.

God bless!
